Patinated Whiplash Grey is Art Nouveau after a hundred years in a damp drawer. Mucha's swelling, rhythmic line is still there, but the surface under it has corroded into scratches, stains and crackle, and the colour has drained out to black, grey and paper white, except for one spot.
The blend
Alphonse Mucha — the line.Whiplash contour creates swelling, tapering outlines that carry rhythm through every form. The long S-curves that thicken and thin as they travel.
Dave McKean — the surface.Mixed-media layering produces corroded, mottled surfaces via scumbled pigment and scratched overdrawing. Layers of paint, collage and scratched pen, the look of his book covers.
Ink and acrylic glazes on distressed paper — the age.The distressed paper infuses crackle, stain and visible tooth.
The rule that holds it together is in the last line: "shades of grey alone apart from that lone color accent". Mucha's posters are known for their colour, so draining it away and leaving only one note changes his line from decorative to haunted. McKean supplies the damage.

FLUX 1.1 proGPT-Image-2Muse 1.0Nano Banana 2.1
On the usual haiku alone, Flux drew a grey profile dissolving into ink spatter, not a walking figure. These renders add "a woman walking away down a quiet, sunlit street, seen from behind".
Flux 1.1 Pro is the most McKean: a cracked, sun-bleached ink street, bare twisting branches, black spattered shadows, and the one colour note as a red sun with rings around it.
GPT Image 2 made a soft pencil-and-wash street on cracked paper, with a woman in a pale dress and a single splash of red flowers. It's the gentlest version and the least Mucha.
Muse 1.0 drew a full Art Nouveau frame of whiplash vines around a scratched, collaged street, with a small figure and one red flower in her hair.
Nano Banana 2.1 has the most Mucha line: swirling pavement, ornamental buildings with clock faces, and a woman in a hat with a bright red scarf, the single colour, flying behind her.
The first GPT, Muse and Nano Banana renders all lettered the haiku onto the page like a poster. These use the walking line alone as the subject, and GPT uses the effect-only text, because "poster" in the neutral text kept producing a lettered title.
Using it
It suits portraits, figures and anything with long flowing shapes for the line to follow: hair, fabric, branches, smoke. The single colour is the hook, so mention a red or gold object in your subject if you want to choose where it goes.
The model-neutral version swaps the names for Art Nouveau poster illustration and mixed-media surrealist collage.
